It’s another year crossed off the calendar again and so comes the ever-constant question, “What is your New Year’s resolution?” which can be daunting or too vague of a concept for some. If you are one of these people, we got you!
Here are some points for you to start for each part of your life:
Mind and Body
How was your mental and physical health last year? Did you prioritize and put due care to it? Or did you have to set it aside in favor of your other endeavors? Regardless, start your new year by setting goals for your mind and body!
Start small and everything will follow. Ask yourself what parts of your well-being you were satisfied with last year and what you found lacking for yourself. Perhaps you haven’t been in touch with your emotions for a while—try putting everything down for a moment and meditate, take it slow, and listen to your favorite music or journal snippets of your life you felt a certain emotion.
Or maybe you have been stagnant and paralyzed by the mental load and gravity of your thoughts and emotions. This is your sign to take the first step towards what matters, no matter how big or seemingly small and inconsequential the stride is. Wield your metaphorical weapon and test your limits. Do it for the plot. Everything good is on the other side of your fears.
Have you been working out tirelessly? Maybe it’s time for you to allow your body to breathe. Or have you always wanted to start a physical routine for yourself and never got to? Try starting with walking, stretches and whatnot—do it now, then tomorrow, and then the next. Build small habits for yourself and gradually take them to the next level whenever you find yourself ready.
Hydrate. Grab a book. Normalize your sleep schedule by using an app. Add or lessen food from your diet. Find sweets for your vices. Book yourself a massage. Investing your time and effort in your general well-being sets the necessary steps for a healthy and prosperous life.
Career, Wealth, and Entertainment
Have your resources been bountiful last year? Did you find growth within your career? Evaluate your passion and motivations and align your goals accordingly.
Cut some losses and budget your resources. Review your subscriptions and plans. Save up by 500, or 200, or even 50 pesos every week. Invest your money for both short-term and long-term goals.
Or don’t if you’ve done enough of that already. Support a work-life balance using your resources. Your career should never take away from your hobbies and passion for doing other interests. A healthy career-hobby interaction isn’t a minus on one and the other; it is a plus-plus. They should be able to mutually support each other and maintain your wellness and capabilities without exhausting or giving up a part of your life.
So go and give yourself a makeover. Buy that game, furniture, or figurine that makes you happy just by looking at it. Celebrate your milestones and small accomplishments by treating yourself.
Grab the opportunity that has been or will be presented to you. Quit and go for that one you feel a pull to. Take a course, a seminar, or a training, and build your skillset according to your interests.
The new year symbolizes new beginnings, novel goals, and fresh aspirations. As such, it warrants a different perspective and a better way of doing things. Break down your goals into small manageable and realistic steps, and track your progress. Do not be afraid to change your goals if your existing ones do not serve you anymore.
Personal Relationships
‘Thank you’, ‘I love you’, ‘I’m sorry’ and whatnots aren’t just for specific situations. How about you? Have you said it enough to the people around you and meant it?
It’s never too late nor is it a bad thing to nourish the flowers in your garden and give them enough love and care to grow further. Spend some more time together and try new things. Hold someone’s hand and tell them you’re glad to have them still that you’re entering the new year together. Have them lean on you. Ask for their understanding and share your problems with them. Are you self-assured or just afraid to ask for help? Relationships take two to tango; even small things like these water the foundation of your relationship.
On the other hand, there may be necessary parts of your life you have to leave behind in order to start fresh. New beginnings can only be when there’s an ending. Leave toxic relationships behind and do not be afraid to burn some bridges if necessary. Focus on commitments that keep your garden green.
New Year celebrations are about the continuous changing of time through which people earnestly live in. Setting your goals and resolutions and trying to meet them is a testament to that, no matter how big or small they may be. What matters most is your endurance and ability to ride this passage of time in the way you know best.
